Agoè-Assiyéyé Market : Togo Grain Site opens for the resumption of commercial Activities

Togo Grain Site, swiftly established to accommodate traders affected by the fire that devastated the Agoè-Assiyéyé Market three weeks ago, opened its doors on Monday, January 8, 2024.
Mayor Kovi Akoété ADANBOUNOU led the municipal council of Agoè-Nyivé 1 town hall on a midday inspection visit to confirm the effective resumption of commercial activities.

We came to observe the commencement of activities at the Togo Grain Site to report back to the government. Since the tragedy, the government, under the leadership of SEM Faure Essozimna GNASSINGBE, promptly responded to the cries of distress and supported us,” declared the Mayor.

Behind their merchandise displays, mainly consisting of essential goods, the merchants were already actively engaging customers and visitors in the new space, covering an area of 8,000 m².

”I come from the old burnt market. For the time being, I believe we are well-established here. I have been trading gari and tapioca for several years in the old market. However, we remain hopeful that the situation will improve. Thanks to the authorities for their efforts,” exclaimed a reseller on site.

The establishment of this site was one of the immediate measures taken by the municipal authorities of the Agoè-Nyivé commune, following the directives of the Head of State Faure Essozimna GNASSINGBE, after the fire on the night of Thursday, December 21, 2023.

With government support, the construction work was expedited to provide over 2,300 exhibitors with 44 teak wood hangars, temporarily covered with sheet metal. The Sogbossito and Djingblé markets were also designated to accommodate other traders and resellers while awaiting the rehabilitation of the main Agoè-Assiyéyé Market.

Togo Grain Site is situated:

– 200m southeast from the burned market, starting from Cap Assiyéyé Klévé on the unpaved side.

– 300m to the right of the tarmac at the 2nd turn after the blue crossroads, heading towards the Total Minamadou I station.

– At the Bodjona crossroads along the fence of the Court of Appeal of Lomé, passing the CEET Agoé-Cacaveli, falling at the traffic light next to the Source school. The new site is located 200m to the right at the crossing.
